Are Amazon reinstatement services illegal? The different roles of reinstatement services, lawyers, and filing your own appeal

Amazon Seller Reinstatement Support ("we" below) is not an official Amazon contact channel and has no ownership or partnership relationship with Amazon. We are also one of the services commonly known in Japan as reinstatement services (復活代行). However, what a service called a "reinstatement service" takes on varies from company to company. Our role is to prepare submission drafts and advise on revisions. You log in to your account and handle appeals and submissions to Amazon yourself.

We are not in a position to answer the question "Are reinstatement services illegal?" with a legal judgment. What this article sorts out is not a conclusion about whether they are illegal, but the difference in roles: who takes on what when you file yourself, engage a private support company, or consult a lawyer. We also list the cautions that can be confirmed in Amazon's policies and official Help as points to check before engaging anyone.

This article is based on our explanatory articles (which draw on Help and other sources we checked as of September 2026) and on Seller Central's official Help, which we checked on October 17, 2026. Policies and screens can change, so please also check what is currently shown.

First, keep in mind: whoever you engage, reinstatement is decided by Amazon's review

The entry point for filing an appeal is inside the seller's own account

An appeal against a suspension of your entire account is sent from Reactivate Your Selling Account (出品用アカウントの再開) on the Account Health page (inside Seller Central). Whether you write it yourself or have someone help you, the place you submit it and the fact that Amazon decides the outcome stay the same.

Amazon does not recommend any particular provider

On the Service Provider Network, where you can find outside providers, Amazon posts a disclaimer stating that listings are provided for informational purposes and that contracts with providers are entered into directly between the seller and the provider. The same disclaimer states that Amazon does not endorse any provider or its services. We are not a contact endorsed by Amazon, either.

The different roles of filing yourself, a support company, and a lawyer

The four in the table are not options of which you can choose only one. You can also divide things up, for example by writing your explanation to Amazon yourself and checking with a lawyer only on the points that require a legal judgment.

Before asking "is it illegal?": four lines you can check against the policies

We cannot judge whether something is illegal. However, from Amazon's policies and official Help, the points you should check whoever you engage can be organized into four.

1. Whether the arrangement involves handing over your ID and password

The agreement with Amazon provides that you must not disclose your password to third parties, except to people you have authorized. The seller alone is responsible for actions taken using the password. The Help page on User Permissions (ユーザー権限) also carries warnings that you should not share your credentials with anyone and that the seller is responsible for the actions of users they add. If you have an outside company operate your Seller Central screens, Help indicates the method of authorizing it as a service provider rather than handing over your password.

The reason we do not take on logging in or submitting is also to avoid problems in terms of security and account linking. Having shared your login information with a provider also becomes one of the connections you will need to explain if your account is flagged as related to another account.

2. Whether it is about transferring an account or lending or borrowing an account name

The Help FAQ states that selling accounts cannot be transferred. When the owner of a business changes, the new owner creates an account in their own name. The agreement also does not permit assigning the agreement without Amazon's written consent. Avoid proposals such as buying or transferring a suspended account, or creating a new one in someone else's name.

3. Whether they claim "connections inside Amazon" or a "special contact channel"

As far as we have confirmed, Amazon's official materials show no higher-level channel that sellers can apply to themselves. There is a system in which higher-level staff handle complex cases, but it is not something sellers can designate. If you are told a provider is "Amazon certified," ask for the name of the program or the documents backing that up. Being listed on the Service Provider Network does not mean Amazon endorses the provider. Our support does not rely on any special relationship with Amazon's review team, either.

4. Whether there are proposals to recreate or alter documents

Forging or altering documents, or submitting documents that don't match the facts, violates Amazon's policies no matter who recommends it. For documents you don't have, ask your business partner to properly reissue them. Proposals to create a new account and keep selling during a suspension are also not permitted under the policies. Official Help states that if the rules on prohibited activities are not followed, you may face actions such as removal of selling privileges or permanent suspension.

Seven things to check before engaging anyone

Whoever you engage, including us, check the following points before signing a contract.

Before asking for help, confirm the scope and fees in writing
Before asking for help, confirm the scope and fees in writing
  • Whether they use language that guarantees the outcome, such as promising reinstatement
  • Whether they ask you to hand over your login ID, password, or verification code
  • Whether they suggest anything that violates the policies, such as creating a new account, transferring an account, or altering documents
  • Whether they base their explanations on the notice you received and the documents you have
  • Whether they show documents backing up claims such as "Amazon certified" or a "special contact channel"
  • Whether the names and addresses of the operating company and its representative can be confirmed, for example in disclosures under Japan's Specified Commercial Transactions Act
  • Whether you can find out the scope of work (who handles logging in and submitting), the total cost, the payment timing, and the cancellation terms before signing a contract

Whatever the fee structure, separately check whether you are being asked to share your login information or alter documents. If you want to check us against these seven points, consultations are free, as often as you need (see the consultation box at the end of this article).

What we do and don't do

CategoryIn our case
What we doReviewing the notice you received and the documents you provide, preparing submission drafts for Amazon, and advising on revisions
What we don't doLogging in to your account; filing appeals, submitting, or communicating with Amazon (you do these yourself); forging or altering documents
Legal judgmentsWe do not make them. For points that require interpreting contracts or laws, please check with a lawyer
Whether you are reinstatedAmazon decides. We cannot promise reinstatement

If we believe reinstatement or the lifting of a warning will be difficult in your case, we will tell you before you engage us, to the extent known at that point. We explain the scope of work and the cancellation terms before you sign the agreement, and we exchange an electronic agreement and an NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

What to keep in mind when filing yourself

You can, of course, file an appeal yourself. As described above, the entry point is the Account Health page. On how to write it, the official guidelines ask you to write clearly and concisely based on the facts, not to include matters from other cases or emotional language, and to show the root cause and the actions you took with dates and documents.

If your appeal is rejected, resending the same text as is does not make up for what was missing. Help also cautions against repeatedly sending documents without allowing enough time.

Consult a lawyer when a legal judgment is needed

Points like the following are legal judgments, and we cannot answer them in a lawyer's place. Please consult a lawyer.

  • How the service you are about to use or the contract you are about to enter into is treated under the law
  • Whether you can request disclosure of the reason for a suspension based on the law
  • How to pursue a claim for held sales proceeds under the law

Frequently asked questions

Q. Are Amazon reinstatement services illegal?

A. We are not in a position to give legal judgments. Please check with a lawyer how the service you are about to use is treated under the law. In terms of Amazon's policies, handing over your ID and password to a third party, transferring an account, and altering documents are not permitted. Before engaging anyone, check that nothing they propose falls under these three. Our role is to prepare submission drafts and advise on revisions, and you log in and submit yourself.

Q. I heard it might be "unauthorized practice of law," and I'm worried.

A. Whether something constitutes the unauthorized practice of law is a legal judgment, so we cannot answer it. Please consult a lawyer. If there is a service you want to check, confirming in writing before signing a contract who will handle logging in and submitting and what they will promise in writing makes it easier to explain your situation when you consult.

Q. I was told, "Give me your ID and password and I'll do everything."

A. The agreement with Amazon does not permit disclosing your password to anyone other than people you have authorized. Help also warns you not to share your credentials with anyone. If you have an outside party operate your Seller Central screens, Help indicates the method of authorizing it as a service provider. If the company does not support the authorization system, do not hand over your password, and do the work yourself.

Q. I was told, "I know someone inside Amazon, so I can get it through."

A. As far as we have confirmed, Amazon's official materials show no higher-level channel that sellers can apply to themselves. Ask for documents that back up the claim, and if none are shown, do not take it at face value.

Q. I was told they would provide another account to replace my suspended one.

A. As a rule, you can have only one account per region in which you sell, and if you have a suspended account, you do not meet the conditions for the exception. Accounts cannot be transferred, either. Official Help states that conduct suspected of circumventing the system is subject to suspension regardless of your score.

Q. Are there any providers Amazon recommends?

A. On the Service Provider Network, Amazon states that it does not endorse any provider or its services. We are not a contact endorsed by Amazon, either.

Q. Can I just consult you and file the appeal myself?

A. Yes. With us, you log in and submit yourself in the first place. Consultations are free, as often as you need.
