When an Amazon review stalls: checks when a listing application, identity verification, or the like is still under review and taking a long time

You've submitted your documents or your appeal, but all you get back are repeated notices saying "Your account is still under review." A listing application has passed its expected date with no movement. This article is for sellers in that situation: the order in which to check the screens that separate "waiting on Amazon" from "waiting on you," the estimated timelines and next moves for each type of review, how to reach out, and what to work on while you wait.

When "under review" won't end, first find out where things are stuck

Sometimes the holdup is on your side — an unanswered request still showing on screen, a separate prerequisite step that hasn't been completed, or a notification that never arrived. When things feel stuck, start by checking "who is this actually waiting on right now." On the Seller Forums, one seller reported being asked to submit sourcing documents in an email titled "Account Review Notice," so even when a subject line says "review," that doesn't always mean you can simply wait.

This article is based on Seller Central Help (some pages in the US version), the official Amazon Selling Services site, responses from Amazon staff and posts from sellers on the Seller Forums, and relevant laws and guidance from the consultation desk commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), all as available as of September 2026. Forum content reflects individual responses and reports. Policies and on-screen labels can change. Telling review emails apart is covered in how to tell Amazon review emails apart; this article focuses on what to do when things still aren't moving after you've read the email correctly.

The 6 screens to check first: don't miss an unanswered request

Checking them in the following order makes it easier to tell which side the ball is on. Screen names follow how they appear in Help.

STEP1. The banner and "Next Steps" on the Account Health page

Open the Account Health (アカウント健全性) page and check the banner at the top and any violations shown. From "View All" in the Product Policy Compliance (商品規約の遵守) section, you can see the current status and the steps to take next to resume selling — the "Next Steps" column. If a suspended product isn't listed there, also check the Manage Your Compliance (コンプライアンスの管理) dashboard. If anything remains in "Next Steps," that's an item you still need to act on.

STEP2. Check whether "View Account Health Requests" has anything waiting

You submit an account suspension appeal from Reactivate your account (出品用アカウントの再開) on the Account Health page, and Help states that a response can take up to about two days. However, if you receive a reply asking for more information, you need to submit the requested documents or details through View Account Health Requests (アカウント健全性の要請を見る) — if you leave it unanswered, the review may not move forward.

STEP3. The original Performance Notification

Open Performance Notifications from the dropdown under the Performance tab. Help for the Seller Performance review walks through opening the relevant notification via "View Appeal" in the "Action" column (the display can vary by notification type). Don't judge from the email alone — check the original notification for the affected product or ASIN, the submission deadline, and where to submit (for things like an appeal questionnaire, the list of affected products may appear at the bottom of the first notification).

STEP4. Replies and status changes in the Case Log

Sometimes the outcome arrives as a reply inside a case rather than as an email. On the Forums, when a seller asked why no reply had come even after the expected date for identity-verification results had passed, Amazon staff advised that completion can be confirmed through a support reply inside the case. If the status changes to something like "Answered," open it and check; if you don't find a reply, reopen that same case rather than creating a new one.

STEP5. Status on the Listing Applications dashboard

You can check the review status of a selling approval (listing application) on the Listing Applications dashboard (出品申請ダッシュボード). You can also check the status of a submitted application or reapply from here. For a suspended identity verification too, Amazon staff have advised checking the Verify Account (アカウントを確認) item under Catalog (カタログ) > View Selling Applications (出品申請を表示): if it shows "Under Review," wait for a reply, and if the item isn't there, ask through a case (this item isn't always shown).

STEP6. Delivery information in the Notification Center and your Notification Preferences

Sometimes the cause is simply an email that never arrived. The Notification Center (通知管理センター) lists your notifications from the past 30 days; from View Notification > View Delivery Information, you can check whether delivery succeeded, where it went, and why it may have failed. Also check the "Notification Options" tab under Settings (設定) > Notification Preferences (通知設定) to confirm the receiving address for each notification type is one you actually use.

Examples of "waiting on you"

  • View Account Health Requests (アカウント健全性の要請を見る) has an unanswered request
  • You've only submitted documents for some of the ASINs listed in the notification, not all of them
  • For an appeal about a product-condition policy violation, you cited a bin check (an inspection of the condition of your FBA inventory) case that hadn't finished review as evidence (this is reportedly not accepted)
  • The notification went to an address you don't use, so you never saw the request

Estimated timelines by type of review, and your next move once they've passed

Both the official estimate and what you're allowed to do when things stall vary by procedure. You can tell which review you're in by where you submitted (Reactivate your account (出品用アカウントの再開), the Listing Applications dashboard, the identity-verification screen during registration, and so on) and by what the notification says. If it's the registration process before you start selling, it's identity verification during registration; if documents were requested after you started selling, triggered by something like a change to your address, bank account, or phone number, that's a Seller Performance review.

Type of reviewOfficial estimated timelineYour next move once the estimate has passedThings to note
Account suspension appealUp to about two days for a response (Help)Check for any additional request, then check the status in the case. Professional sellers can also consult Account Health SupportDon't open a new case for the same issue
Seller Performance review (verification triggered by a change to your registration details, etc.)Up to 2 business days from when documents are received (Help)Check your registered email address for the latest update and any unanswered request; if there's no word, check the status in a case rather than resubmitting documentsDon't repeatedly resubmit documents without allowing enough time
Identity verification during registrationUp to 2 business days (Help) / about 3 business days (official site)Don't miss any follow-up message or request to resubmitDon't resubmit or appeal while it's under review
Seller-fulfilled shipping reviewWithin 30 days (Help)Keep shipping unshipped orders and send proof of delivery to the location specified in the instructionsDon't offer anything in exchange for a buyer review
Selling approval (listing application)2–7 business days (Help)If the expected date has passed, message directly within that case (per Amazon staff answers on the Forums). If it's rejected, review the requirements and submit a new application with new documents (Help)Don't resubmit the same documents without reviewing the requirements
Installment Sales Act (割賦販売法) reviewRoughly 2 days (official site)Go ahead with pre-launch preparation such as registering products and setting up FBA shipments. You'll only be contacted via a Performance Notification if there's an issue; no contact means nothing to reportAmazon reportedly cannot respond to inquiries about the content of this review
Seller Challenge (セラーチャレンジ) (Account Health Assurance participants only)Amazon's goal is to respond within 48 hours (Help)Prepare on the assumption that the listing deactivation continues while it's under reviewThis applies to listing-level actions only and can't be used against an account suspension

The days in this table are estimates, not a promise of when you'll be reactivated or approved. Because Help and the official site give different numbers for identity verification, it's safest to read it as roughly "a few business days." If your own notification states a specific date or deadline, follow that instead.

When a listing application is still under review and taking a long time, has passed its expected date, or the approval isn't reflected

Sellers have reported on the forums that a listing-application case can show an expected result date (official Help doesn't explain this). If it's still under review after that date has passed, Amazon staff advise sending a message directly within that case. For an application stuck for a long time, since the review only moves forward through the case created at the time you applied, there are examples where reapplying and working through a new case was advised — but that doesn't apply to every application, so check within your existing case first. If you've been told your documents are duplicates, see also checking a duplicate-document flag on a listing application. If the screen still hasn't updated after approval, Amazon staff have said it can take up to about 24 hours to be reflected, and Help states that your Account Health Rating updates within a few hours after your response is confirmed. If nothing has changed even after waiting, ask about it in the case, including the approval notice you received.

Amazon Seller Reinstatement Support (not an official Amazon contact channel), which publishes this article, also accepts consultations on listing restrictions and on applying for listing approval. Our fees are the same for every engagement, and for an engagement involving an application for listing approval, the success fee is charged when listing approval is obtained (for details, see our pricing page).

Reviews you can resubmit, and ones you should hold off on

Whether you should send things again depends on the type of review. Treat resending the same content and submitting requested information or new evidence as two different things.

  • Listing application: If rejected, you can check the reason, review the requirements, and submit a new application with new documents. However, "You don't meet the requirements needed to apply" means Amazon has determined you aren't currently eligible to sell that product, and this reportedly can't be appealed.
  • Identity verification during registration: Help explicitly says not to resubmit or appeal while it's under review, and you can't even upload documents while verification is in progress. On the other hand, if you're asked to resubmit, the registration process ends if you don't respond within 30 days.
  • Seller Performance review: You're cautioned against repeatedly submitting documents before enough time has passed. How many days to wait isn't specified.
  • Account suspension appeal: There's no official standard for how many days or how many times you can resend. The basic approach is to answer any additional request if one exists, and otherwise check the status in the case.

What to check against before you submit

Documents that don't meet the requirements just add more rounds to the review. Check the following before you submit.

Pre-submission checklist

  • Is there still an unanswered request in Account Health, Performance Notifications, or a case?
  • Do you have documents for every affected product/ASIN? When is the submission deadline?
  • Is your identity document within its validity period and clearly legible, with all four edges visible? Is it a scan or photo of the original, not a screenshot? Is the image or PDF in color? (Official guidance on identity verification says black-and-white documents aren't accepted for review)
  • Does the name and address on at least one document match your registered information?
  • If you're submitting an invoice, does its issue date fall within the deadline (roughly 365 days for an appeal, 180 days for a listing application), and does it cover the quantity for the affected ASIN(s)? (Follow any specific instruction in the notification or application page if one is given)
  • Make sure it isn't a quote, or a file in an editable format such as Excel or Word

If you're rejected over a mismatch in name or address, the guidance is either to update your registered information to match the document, or to submit a supporting document that explains the mismatch. Note that Help states a change to your address, bank account, or phone number can trigger a Seller Performance review. If you're going to change your registered information, have your supporting documents ready first. Preparing additional documents is covered in preparing additional documents for identity verification.

When asking about status, keep it to "one issue per case"

If the estimate has passed and neither the screen nor the case shows any unanswered request, ask for a status check. Technical Support (テクニカルサポート) guidelines mainly set out the following points, and a case may be closed if they aren't followed.

  • Check the status in the Case Log before opening a new case (flag time-sensitive issues as "Urgent")
  • Open one case per issue, and don't create a new one if a case for the same issue is already under review
  • If the response will take time, ask that the case be left open
  • If you have a question about a closed case, reopen it instead of creating a new one
  • If you're told no further action will be taken, don't reopen the case or create a new one

Help for appeals likewise asks you not to mix in other questions and not to use emotional language. Below is a sample message for checking on status after submitting a suspension appeal. It's a hypothetical example, not an actual case, so replace the bracketed parts with your own records. If you already have an existing case, don't create a new one — send this as a reply within that case.

Regarding Case ID: [fill in], could you please check the current status of this review? I submitted the appeal from the Account Health page on [submission date] and attached [name of submitted document]. The response estimate stated in Help (or the expected date I was given: [fill in]) has passed, but I have not yet received a result, and I don't see any additional request on screen.
Please let me know if there is any further information I should submit. If the review is going to take more time, I would appreciate it if you could leave this case open.

Professional sellers can also use Account Health Support

Professional sellers can enter a phone number through the [Contact Us] ([お問い合わせ]) button on the Account Health page and receive a call back from an Account Health specialist. Preparing before the call is covered in preparing before you contact Account Health Support, and how to keep a record of your case exchanges is covered in organizing your Technical Support inquiry.

Note that Amazon staff have explained that the Seller Forums cannot handle inquiries about reviews. Don't post your case ID or any personal information there either.

Places to turn besides Amazon's own contact points

Amazon Japan G.K., which operates Amazon.co.jp, has been designated a Specified Digital Platform Provider under the Transparency Act (the Act on Improving Transparency and Fairness of Specified Digital Platforms). The Digital Platform Transaction Consultation Desk (for businesses using online malls), commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), offers free advice, but it does not provide mediation or arbitration. If you need a legal opinion, consult a lawyer or another qualified professional.

What to work on while you wait

Keep the following moving in parallel while you wait.

  • Ship unshipped orders and update tracking information: You're advised to keep shipping unshipped orders even while a seller-fulfilled shipping review is underway.
  • Save your notifications: The Notification Center only shows the past 30 days, so keep a record of anything important.
  • Check your emergency contact number: Confirm that a reachable phone number is registered under Emergency Notifications (緊急通知) in Settings (設定) > Notification Preferences (通知設定). For Account Health Assurance, having a valid emergency contact number on file is a requirement, and being reachable within 72 hours of Amazon contacting you is also a condition, so a separate clock can be running even while you wait.
  • Narrow down why a payment has stopped: One reason payments can be delayed is "when your account is under review," and you can check the details in a Performance Notification. There are also reasons unrelated to a review, such as incomplete bank account information.
  • Keep a record of your response: Logging the date received, date submitted, what you submitted, case ID, and expected date in chronological order lets you describe your situation accurately when you do reach out.

Help's "Policy Regarding Release of Reserve" states that when a risk is identified, funds are generally held for 90 days, but the hold is extended if the risk continues or further investigation is needed, and where fraud, deception, or illegal activity is suspected, funds are held until it's confirmed that no problematic conduct occurred. If the hold isn't released, you can separately file a claim requesting payment once 60 days have passed since the hold date. Plan your cash flow with some margin. How to check this is covered in detail in checking your funds after a suspension.

What not to do when things aren't moving

Acting out of impatience can create a separate problem. Avoid the following.

  • Continue selling on a different account: You may maintain only one account per selling region, except where you have a legitimate reason and every account is operating properly. Opening a new one just to get around a wait for review is a policy violation.
  • Alter a document: Altered documents, and invoices in an editable format such as Excel or Word, are not accepted for review. Redacting price information on an invoice is allowed, but don't change anything else on it. If you don't have a document on hand, ask your supplier to issue a proper replacement.
  • Open multiple cases for the same issue: The guidelines above ask you to avoid this.
  • Try to speed up the review with an explanation that isn't accurate: The Code of Conduct (出品者行動規範) requires that you not engage in misleading conduct, including in your communications with Amazon.
  • Close the case yourself: A reply may already be sitting inside it.

Frequently asked questions

Q. I keep getting "still under review" emails. Should I resend my documents?

A. Before resending, check the six screens above for any unanswered request. For identity verification and Seller Performance reviews, you're advised to hold off on resubmitting or sending things repeatedly while under review. If there's no request waiting, check the status in a case rather than sending the same thing again.

Q. My listing application is taking a long time and is still "under review" even after the expected date. What should I do?

A. First, check the status on the Listing Applications dashboard and whether any unanswered questions remain in your case. Help gives 2–7 business days as the estimated timeline for a selling approval review, but that isn't a promise of when you'll be approved. If it's still under review after the expected date, Amazon staff on the Seller Forums advise sending a message within the case created when you applied (see "When a listing application is still under review and taking a long time, has passed its expected date, or the approval isn't reflected" above). Technical Support guidelines also say not to create a new case for the same issue. For applications stuck for a long time, there are examples where reapplying and working through a new case was advised, but that doesn't apply to every application. How to handle a case when you want it escalated is also covered in our explanation of Seller Central's contact channels and when to use each one.

Q. Can an Individual seller contact Account Health Support too?

A. Account Health Support is described as a contact point for Professional sellers. Other sellers are directed to use resources such as Help and Seller University (Amazon出品大学), and to file appeals following the steps in Help. Check status through a case, and avoid creating a new case for the same issue.

Q. Does no contact mean there was no problem?

A. It's the Installment Sales Act (割賦販売法) review specifically where it's stated that you won't be contacted if there's no problem. For other reviews, don't read a lack of contact as approval or completion — check the status on screen and in your case.

Q. The submit button for my appeal won't respond, and I can't submit at all.

A. The US Help site lists steps such as trying a different browser, clearing your cache, or submitting from the Amazon Seller app. The Japanese version doesn't have this section, so start by checking the on-screen guidance. For the general approach to checking a display problem like an unresponsive button, when Amazon's appeal submission button is missing can be a useful reference, though that example covers the plan-of-action submission screen. For the appeal's submit button, if the problem doesn't clear up, raise it in a Technical Support case (Professional sellers can also consult Account Health Support).

Summary

When "under review" drags on, check where things are stuck before you just wait.

  • Work through the six screens in order to tell "waiting on Amazon" apart from "waiting on you"
  • The estimated number of days differs by type of review and is not a promise of when you'll be reactivated; follow the date and deadline in your own notification first
  • A listing application can be resubmitted with new documents after rejection, while identity verification calls for holding off on resubmitting while it's under review
  • Keep inquiries to one issue per case. Don't open a new case for the same issue, and don't close a case yourself
  • While you wait, keep shipping, save your notifications, check your contact details, and keep an eye on your cash flow

If you can't tell what a request actually means, consider gathering the original notification and your submission records and consulting Amazon's support or a specialist sooner rather than later. The full picture from suspension to filing for reinstatement is covered in an overview of the path from account suspension to reinstatement.
