If you create a new Amazon account after a suspension or closure: account linking and the right order of steps

Amazon Seller Reinstatement Support ("we" below) is not an official Amazon contact channel and has no ownership or partnership relationship with Amazon. This article is for sellers who have received a suspension or closure notice and are wondering whether they could start over with a new account. It covers selling accounts (Seller Central).

To give the answer first: creating another account and continuing to sell while you have a suspended account does not fall under the exception in the policies and is not permitted. All of your accounts, including the new one you created, may be stopped. Rather than how to create a new account, this article sorts out why you should avoid it and the order of steps that follows the policies.

This article is based on our explanatory articles (which draw on Help and other sources we checked as of September 2026) and on Seller Central's official Help, which we checked on October 17, 2026. Policies and screens can change, so please also check the notice you received and the latest Help.

Our role is to prepare submission drafts and advise on revisions. You log in to your account and handle appeals and submissions to Amazon yourself.

A new account created during a suspension does not fall under the exception

As a rule, one account per region in which you sell

Official Help states that, as a rule, you may have one Seller Central account per region in which you sell. You may have a second only if you have a legitimate business reason to open it and, in addition, all the accounts you hold are in good standing.

If you have a suspended account, you do not meet the condition that "all of them are in good standing." For this reason, assume that a new account created after a suspension does not fall under the exception.

One problem can extend to all of your accounts

The same Help page states that if any of your accounts has a problem, all of your selling accounts may be stopped until the problem is resolved on every account. An official Amazon news post also explains the flow of recovering the suspended account first and then reactivating the other accounts.

If it is seen as "circumvention," the account is stopped regardless of the score

The Help page on the Account Health Rating states that if conduct attempting to circumvent Amazon's systems is suspected, Amazon will suspend the account regardless of the rating score. Amazon staff have also replied on the Seller Forums that creating a new account during a suspension may make your situation worse.

Account linking is not something you can prevent by "changing X"

Amazon has not published specific criteria for which information, and how much of it, must match for accounts to be considered related. For this reason, methods such as "you won't be found if you change your address or the name the account is registered under" are not shown anywhere in official sources.

Addresses, cards, networks and devices can be clues that link accounts
Addresses, cards, networks and devices can be clues that link accounts

To begin with, the Seller Code of Conduct requires you to keep your account information up to date at all times and not to engage in misleading conduct in the information you provide about your account. Do not register an address or contact details that differ from reality in order to avoid being linked. Doing so would conflict with that rule and may be seen as false information. Having a family member or acquaintance register an account in their name when the person actually running it is the same also makes the registration differ from reality and may amount to false information.

Conversely, even if all the information you register reflects reality, as long as you have a suspended account, you do not fall under the exception that allows a second account.

The order of steps that follows the policies, by current status

Before considering a new account, determine which status your current account is in.

You put it on vacation yourselfThere is no suspension notice from Amazon, and you have set your store status to "Inactive" (停止中)Switch the status back to "Active" (出品中)Not needed

The guidance to "register anew" when you closed your account yourself is an explanation about an account whose closure is complete. It does not mean you may leave a suspended account in place and create another one. If you can't tell which status the notice you have corresponds to, you can send us the text of the notice on LINE (see the consultation box at the end of this article).

"Close it and start over" gets the order backwards

The steps before closing shown in official Help include an item to check your Performance Notifications and make sure that all reasons for any deactivation have been resolved and the account has been restored. In other words, the official order is to resolve the suspension and then close the account. Amazon staff have also replied that during a suspension, you cannot close the account until it has first been reinstated.

In addition, you cannot close an account within 90 days of your last sale or while the balance is not zero. There is no official explanation that closing an account removes the linkage, and an account you closed yourself cannot be restored. Even if you close the account during a suspension, the hold on your sales proceeds and the inventory issues remain.

How to check before creating one, by the reason you want to start over

Apart from suspensions, there are also situations in which you may need a new account for business reasons. In every situation, follow the order of checking first rather than creating first. This table is not for starting over while leaving a suspended account in place. If you have a suspension or an unresolved notice, resolving it comes first.

SituationWhat official information and answers showWhat to do before creating one
You want to have a second accountOnly if you have a legitimate business reason and all of your accounts are in good standingWork out which of the examples your reason falls under, and check with Seller Support
You want to switch from a sole proprietorship to a corporationNot the text of official Help but an individual answer on the Seller Forums. In September 2026, an Amazon staff member replied that a direct switch is not possible, that you need to open a new account as a corporation, and that ratings and sales history cannot be transferred (different guidance had been given in the past)Before creating a new one, check with Seller Support about how it affects the multiple-account rules
You are handing the business over to someoneSelling accounts cannot be transferred. If the owner changes, the new owner creates an account in their own name. If only the person in charge changes, add them as a userDistinguish whether the owner is changing or only the person in charge. If a suspended account remains, check with Amazon before creating one
You want to sell in an overseas marketplaceIf you register in another region, the new account is automatically linked to your original accountFirst check whether your current account has any suspension or unresolved notice

What not to do

  • Continuing to sell on a new account during a suspension: You do not meet the conditions for the exception, and all of your accounts may be stopped.
  • Having a family member or acquaintance create one in their name: If the person running it is the same, the registration differs from reality.
  • Using or taking over someone else's account: Selling accounts cannot be transferred.
  • Making your registration information differ from reality: The rule is to keep your account information accurate at all times.
  • Hastily closing another account (including overseas ones): An account you closed yourself cannot be restored, and there is no basis for the idea that closing removes the connection.

Frequently asked questions

Q. If my Amazon account is closed, can I create a new one and start over?

A. Even if the notice says "closed," the word alone does not determine your current status. First check whether it states an appeal method or a deadline, and whether Reactivate Your Selling Account appears on the Account Health page. A new account created while you have a suspended account does not fall under the exception in the policies.

Q. Can I just leave the suspended account alone and register again?

A. No. Creating a new account in order to avoid a suspension is a policy violation, and all of your accounts, including the new one, may be stopped. Move forward with the appeal for the suspended account first.

Q. Can I create one in a family member's name or another company's name?

A. If the person actually running it is the same, changing only the name still makes the registration differ from reality and may amount to false information. We could not find any explicit official statement on how it is treated when family members each sell independently. If you're unsure, check with Seller Support before creating one.

Q. I closed my account once, and now I want to sell again.

A. An account you closed yourself cannot be reactivated, even by Amazon. To sell again, a new registration is required. There is an example of an Amazon staff member replying that creating a new one under the same business may lead to questions about a connection to the previous account, so consult Technical Support before registering.

Q. I've already created a new account. What should I do?

A. Write down all the accounts involved, and be ready to explain factually how and when you created the second one. Recovering the suspended account comes first, so start with the appeal for the suspended account. Don't decide on your own which one to keep and close the other; instead, state it in the appeal as your plan going forward. If you're unsure, check with Seller Support.

Q. Can I create a new one if I change my email address, device, or internet connection?

A. Amazon has not published what it uses to determine that accounts are related, and it has not indicated whether devices or network environments are used. What comes first is that as long as you have a suspended account, you do not fall under the exception that allows a second account, no matter what information you register with. Move forward with the appeal for the suspended account.

Q. I have an account that was suspended years ago. Can I still not create a new one?

A. Help does not indicate any general period after which it becomes acceptable. First log in to the old account and check the reason for the suspension in Performance Notifications. Whether to create a new one is something to check with Amazon after that.

Summary

  • As a rule, you can have one account per region in which you sell. If you have a suspended account, you do not fall under the exception that allows a second account.
  • The criteria for determining linkage have not been published, and there is no official explanation that changing your name or address lets you avoid it. The rule is to keep your registration information true to reality.
  • In terms of order, the appeal for the suspended account comes first. Guidance on registering anew exists only when you closed your account yourself, and even then, check with Amazon beforehand.
  • "Close it and start over" is the reverse of the official order. An account you closed yourself cannot be restored.
